MY APPLES My works try to transmit to those who look at them a sensation, an emotion. My fruits have life themselves. They transmit peace, serenity and feelings at the same time, that can be whether feelings of hapiness or sadness. The apples and lemons, reflect isolation, and a li ttle nostalgia. In fact, I don't know if I achieve it, but this is what I try to do. What I finally want is my paintings being able to mean something. Not long ago I remembered the meaning of the word catharsis, and I was impressed \ldblquote purification of the emotions produced by a work of art's. This is the most that you can get from a painting, a work of art. I think that Rodin achieved it completely. You can look at his scupltures for hours and it seems as if they transported you to another world. Besides I will tell you that I like fruits. For me, they are not still lives (I've got a little aversion to these words), for me they are fruits and vegetables, pots and house objects. The attraction I feel towards these things and objects is unaccountable. They transf er me to my childhood, to the country and to nature. To the walks through Sant Josep market looking at the so well on fruit stores. I believe that in these things, so simple and ordinary, so unimportant, you can find hapiness and peace. Art critics opinions Individual exhibition at Sant Cugat Ateneu Els 4 Cantons, Friday, may the 31st 1996 Melancholy in nature The artist's dynamics is well known enough; president and founder member of Firart, Begoña has become herself, in a short time, a model of artist involved in art promotion from the basis. During the last years, we had been able to follow her career in several collective exhibitions, but, this is the first chance to know her work better. The results are notorious. The coherence of her still lives gives unity and personality to the rest of the exhibition. With this collection, she shows that she' s able to undress the picture by taking off its non essential elements to get to the important nucleus of the subject. Besides, it's also necessary to say that the whole series is treated with a very sincere melancholy. Pere Pich Individual exhibition at PRIVART, Sant Cugat del Vallés Els 4 Cantons, December 1997 May 1998 "A series through a quiet step" Ten parts of a series In the Privart peculiar place we can find the Sant Cugat painter Begoña Valcárcel exhibition. Those who have had the chance of following the work of the painter, have noticed important changes. If her work was before subordinated to reality, it has changed to a work where representation of reality is not the most important. Now, she uses models as a way of explaining deep feelings. In the series that she's showing in this exhibition, the artist has removed whatever is not necessary. Begoña finds a balance between a complicated reality and a simple and clear contribution. The artist bets on a series, a succession of images with slow movements. The apple, which has been painted in the whole series, has been analysed with the accuracy of a clear aim, in 10 paintings which represent 10 parts of a whole complete and simple at the same time. Allthough compared with the rest of the artists work, this is a different work, we can find a plastic coherence in both colours and textures. Her works lay on evening colours, and she has removed all the non esssential things from the picures. Above these backgrounds, naked bodies midway between weak and voluptuous, show their drama. She was born in Valencia.
Spain 1972-75 She lives in Paris and from 1976 she lives in Sant Cugat del Vallès. She studies art at the Local School of Art in Sant Cugat del Vallès. In 1990 with three other painters she constitutes the group "Pigments" In 1991 with eight other artists she constitutes the "Collectiu nou". In 1999 with eight other artists she constitutes the group "Nouxtres". In 1994 she promotes the constitution of the FIRART Association in Sant Cugat del Vallès, which she presided until 1997. Her work has been chosen in several painting contests: The art award Palamós, Art Gallery Tramonana and el Cau de la Costa Brava Museum in 1994 and in 1996. The Principat Andorra Art reward and the Plans de les Pallargues in the Segarra in 1996, and the Art reward Valentí in Sitges in 1996, 1997 and 1998, the Igualada local reward in 1998, and the Calassanç reward in Terrassa in 1999 and 2000, among others. 1994-1996 Works in the art background of the Gallery La Paíssa d'en Ciset in Albons, Girona. 1994 Works in the art background of the Gallery Ionit in Sant Cugat del Vallès.
